All-day care
Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, elementary school students will have a legal right to full-day care. The Fulda district has put the necessary measures in place for the 52 affected school locations (excluding the city of Fulda).
Who is eligible for this legal entitlement?
Under this legal entitlement, first-graders will be entitled to after-school care starting in the 2026–27 school year
- five business days a week
- for up to eight hours a day
- at a daycare center or an all-day school program.
However, starting in August 2026, the Fulda district will offer full-day care at all elementary schools and the elementary levels of special education schools for all students in grades 1 through 4.
Are only first-graders eligible for a full-day spot?
No. Even though the legal entitlement will apply to first-graders starting in August 2026, the Fulda district will provide full-day programs at all elementary schools and the elementary levels of special education schools for all children in grades 1 through 4.
Who will take care of my child during the full-day program?
Children in the full-day program are cared for by multidisciplinary teams: Teachers, full-day staff, and early childhood educators work together in a spirit of trust to provide full-day services. Many staff members have been working in the all-day program for many years. All staff members can obtain certification in all-day care through the Fulda District Adult Education Center.
Is there enough staff for all-day care?
Most of the staff have already been working in the schools—some for years. The Fulda District’s Schulservice gGmbH, which was established specifically for this purpose, is responsible for hiring and assisting with the recruitment of staff.
What activities are offered to the children during the full school day?
The offerings are diverse and can range from remedial classes to sports, music, and creative clubs. Schools can also collaborate with external partners, such as clubs. The specific offerings vary by school and depend on what is available locally.
Do parents have to pay for education and childcare services?
Yes, because the costs of qualified programs cannot be covered by subsidies from the state of Hesse alone. In addition to parental contributions, the district makes up the remaining shortfall.
How much are the parent fees?
The amount of the parental fees is based on the number of days booked following a binding registration, but not on the duration of daily attendance. Payment is made per school semester.
Supervision in the mornings until the school's respective lunch break:
Module 1: 1–5 days, 75 € per semester (5 months at 15 € each)Module 1: The school morning includes all educational and childcare services that are voluntarily used during the time before classes begin until the lunch break. This option must be selected as soon as a supervision service within the above-mentioned framework is used. The duration of the service within the school morning and the number of days do not matter.
Morning and Afternoon Care:
Module 2: 1–2 days, 100 € per half-year (5 months at €20 each)
Module 3: 3–4 days, €175 per half-year (5 months at €35 each)
Module 4: 5 days, €200 per half-year (5 months at €40 each)Modules 2–4 must be booked as soon as you sign up for any activity starting after the lunch break—regardless of which one you choose. The morning school hours are included in Modules 2–4—this means that as soon as one of Modules 2–4 is selected, the morning hours can also be used.
Are there any discounts on the parent fee?
Im Anmeldeprozess zu den Ganztagsangeboten der Schulen gibt es in unserem Online-Portal www.ganztag.landkreis-fulda.de die Möglichkeit, den Bezug von Sozialleistungen (SGB II, SGB XII, Wohngeld, Kinderzuschlag, Asylbewerberleistungen) anzugeben und einen entsprechenden Nachweis (Leistungsbescheid) hochzuladen.
Nachdem Sie die Online-Anmeldung beim Landkreis Fulda durchgeführt haben, erhalten Sie per E-Mail eine Eingangsbestätigung und es wird seitens des Landkreises geprüft, ob die von Ihnen gemachten Angaben richtig sind und ein Erlass der Beiträge vorgenommen werden kann.
Do I have to officially register my child?
Ja, die Anmeldung ist verbindlich und erfolgt in zwei Stufen. Zuerst muss die verbindliche Anmeldung bei der Schule erfolgen. Nach der Bestätigung durch die Schule muss zudem eine Anmeldung über das Online-Portal des Landkreises Fulda www.ganztag.landkreis-fulda.de erfolgen. Entsprechendes Infomaterial erhalten Sie durch Ihre Schule.
Will my child be served lunch?
Yes, lunch is included in the full-day program. Parents are responsible for paying for lunch. Billing and cost-sharing arrangements vary by caterer.
Is childcare available during school breaks, and is there an additional charge for it?
In general, vacation care is a legal entitlement. It is not offered for only four weeks a year. The cost of vacation care is billed separately. The cost is 150 euros per week booked.
Who is eligible for after-school care during the 2026–2027 school year?
The after-school care program for the 2026–2027 school year is available exclusively to first-graders who will start school in 2026.
When does the vacation program start, and how can I register my child?
The first vacation care program of the 2026–2027 school year will be offered during the 2027 Easter break. There is no guarantee of a spot at a specific location. You will receive information on how to register in a timely manner.
