Child Day Care: Information for Parents
Childcare at a daycare center offers your child
- Care provided by a consistent primary caregiver
- care in a small group
- individualized support
Childcare hours are arranged on a flexible basis. This makes it possible to balance child-rearing with a career.
The child day care offices of Fulda District and the City of Fulda help parents find the best possible child care option. They provide information about available day care spots in the respective municipality or city.
During a personal consultation, parents receive information about the unique features and educational programs offered by each daycare provider. The specialized agencies also provide information on organizational, legal, and financial matters related to child day care. It is a long-term form of child care.
Funding for child day care is provided in accordance with the following regulations:
Children ages 1 to 3 |

Children ages 0 to 1 and ages 3 to 14 |

Start of Care / Adjustment Period
Child care services and, consequently, payment of the corresponding fee begin on the first day of care; however, from an educational standpoint, a settling-in period is considered essential to help your child adjust well to the child care provider. Please make the necessary arrangements with your child care provider. The start of the adjustment period is considered the same as the start of care.
Once care begins, you will pay the cost-sharing amount based on the approved care hours.
In accordance with our bylaws, parents pay a monthly fee to the public youth welfare agency. Please refer to the following table for the applicable amounts:
Weekly scope of care | monthly contribution toward costs |
| Weekly scope of care | monthly contribution toward costs |
1–5 hours | 33.00 euros |
| 26–30 hours | 198.00 euros |
6–10 hours | 66.00 euros |
| 31–35 hours | 231.00 euros |
11–15 hours | 99.00 euros |
| 36–40 hours | 264.00 euros |
16–20 hours | 132.00 euros |
| 41–45 hours | 297.00 euros |
21–25 hours | 165.00 euros |
| 46–50 hours | 330.00 euros |
If parents are unable to pay the fee due to their financial situation, they may apply to the public youth welfare agency for a waiver or reduction of the fee. You can find the form in the Downloads section.
Ongoing Cash Benefit
Since August 1, 2020, child care providers have been receiving a flat-rate, ongoing cash benefit. This generally eliminates the need to provide proof of care hours. This cash benefit includes entitlement to 24 days of time off from childcare, as well as coverage for up to six weeks of absences by your child care provider due to illness per calendar year.
