Local Elections
On March 15, 2026, local elections were held in all cities, municipalities, and counties in Hesse. On that day, citizens elected the district councils in the districts, the city councils in the cities, and the municipal councils in the municipalities. Where cities and municipalities are divided into local districts, new members of the local advisory councils were also elected.
How many votes does each voter have?
In local elections, each voter has as many votes as there are seats to be filled in the elected body. The Fulda District Council currently has 81 members.
How can the votes be distributed?
Votes may be cast individually or in blocks (cumulative voting) for candidates, including those from different slates (split voting). It is also possible to accept candidate lists as is, to remove individual candidates from a list, or to combine the various voting options. For more information, see the links below.
How do I apply for an absentee ballot?
Absentee ballot materials can be requested from the municipal or city election office.
