Accompanied by musical performances by students from the district music school, former elected officials were honored, and other individuals received awards for their 20 years of service on the district’s governing bodies. Fifteen other attendees were honored with Letters of Recognition from the State of Hesse. These are awarded for exceptional volunteer work in the areas of democratic, social, or cultural development of society. Current elected officials were also in attendance. District Administrator Bernd Woide and District Council Chair Helmut Herchenhan emphasized the importance of volunteer work in their remarks of thanks. “Safeguarding local self-government requires women and men who are willing to get involved. They make a valuable contribution to our democracy,” said District Administrator Woide.
