Practice of Medicine, License (License to Practice Alternative Medicine)

Every person has a legal right.

Application documents:

• Resume
• Birth certificate; if the name has been changed, a corresponding certificate
• Official Certificate of Good Conduct (issued within the last three months)
• Declaration as to whether any criminal or preliminary investigation proceedings are pending
• Medical certificate, issued within the last three months, attesting to fitness for the profession
• Proof of successful completion of secondary school or an equivalent or higher-level school diploma
• If applicable, a statement regarding any testing that has already been conducted (date and location),

• You must be at least 25 years old,
• be able to provide proof of at least a completed elementary school education (at least a secondary school diploma),
• be of good moral character,
• be physically fit to practice the profession,
• and, during the assessment of your knowledge and skills by the public health department, you must demonstrate that your practice of medicine would not pose a risk to public health or to the patients who seek your care.

This license entitles you to use the professional title “Heilpraktikerin” or “Heilpraktiker.”

The Heilpraktiker license may not be restricted to specific fields. The only exceptions to this rule are currently restrictions on the naturopath license to the fields of psychotherapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy.

  • If a passport is presented, a certificate of residence from the Residents' Registration Office responsible for the applicant's primary residence must also be provided
• Proof of a high school diploma (at least a secondary school diploma)
• Birth certificate; if the name has been changed, a corresponding certificate
• Official certificate of good conduct, which must have been issued no earlier than 3 months prior to submission
• A medical certificate attesting to the applicant’s physical fitness to practice as a naturopath, which must have been issued no earlier than 3 months prior to submission
• Resume
• Statement regarding whether criminal proceedings are pending in court or whether a preliminary investigation is being conducted by the public prosecutor's office
• A statement regarding any unsuccessful attempts to verify the information to date (if applicable).

Neither medical training nor a professional qualification exam is required for licensure to practice as a naturopath. Rather, the assessment focuses on whether the applicant possesses sufficient knowledge and skills in the field of medicine to ensure that their practice of medicine does not pose a risk to public health.
