Child day care permit
Service description
A person who wishes to care for a child or several children outside the household of the legal guardian for part of the day and for more than 15 hours a week for more than three months in return for payment requires a permit.
Permission must be granted if the person is suitable for child day care.
Suitable persons are,
- who are characterized by their personality, professional competence and willingness to cooperate with parents/guardians and other childminders and
- that have child-friendly facilities.
They should have in-depth knowledge of the requirements of child day care, which they have acquired in qualified training courses or demonstrated in some other way.
The permit authorizes the care of up to five foreign children present at the same time. In individual cases, permission may be granted for a smaller number of children.
The permit is limited to five years.
Procedure
If you are interested in working in child day care, please always contact the youth welfare office responsible for the application process and advice on child day care licensing in the area where you work or would like to work in child day care. There you will receive information on the application process, the aptitude test and the necessary qualifications. You can only start working as a childminder once you have been granted a permit.

Childminders should have in-depth knowledge of the requirements of childminding, which they have acquired in qualified training courses or demonstrated in some other way.
An extended certificate of good conduct is required for all those who supervise, look after, educate or have comparable contact with children in child day care.
All childminders born after 1970 must provide proof of protection against measles in the form of a completed measles vaccination or measles immunity.
The requirements are checked by the responsible youth welfare office in each individual case on the basis of the applicable statutory provisions and its own regulations.
