Landscape Conservation

Landscape conservation encompasses all measures aimed at the special protection and preservation of the natural environment and landscape of a specific area.

The goals are to preserve, develop, or restore the

• The performance and functionality of the ecosystem,
• The regenerative capacity and sustainable use of natural resources,
• Diversity, distinctiveness, or beauty of the landscape,
• the landscape's special cultural and historical significance,
• of particular importance for recovery.

To protect landscapes, certain areas may be designated as landscape conservation areas. Within these landscape conservation areas, any activities that alter the character of the area, impair the landscape or the performance and functionality of the ecosystem, or run counter to the specific conservation objectives are prohibited.

Landscape conservation areas are designated to preserve or restore the area’s characteristic natural features and to ensure that they remain available for use by future generations.
