Granting of Subsidies for Child Day Care
Service description
Child day care provides for the upbringing, education, and care of a child by a child care provider and is usually offered by public youth welfare services—that is, the youth welfare offices of the counties and cities. Care generally takes place in the childminder’s home, but it can also take place in the child’s parents’ home or in other suitable facilities.
Procedure
Parents should contact the youth welfare office in their county or city to seek advice.
Prerequisites
A child who has reached the age of one is entitled to care at a daycare center or in a family daycare setting until the child turns three.
From the age of three until the child starts school, the child is entitled to care at a daycare center. If there are special needs, or as a supplement, the child may also receive care in a family daycare setting. This generally applies to school-age children as well.

As a rule, parents must pay a fee to the Youth Welfare Office for their child’s care in a daycare setting.
