Ensuring Animal Health – Taking Responsibility.

As an animal health inspector, you work in the fields of animal health, animal welfare, and disease control. You inspect facilities, assist with investigations, and help implement measures to prevent risks.

What You'll Bring to the Table

• Completed vocational training (e.g., farmer, animal caretaker, or livestock manager) or a bachelor's degree in agriculture
• At least two years of relevant professional experience
• Interest in animal health and animal welfare
• A sense of responsibility and a meticulous approach to work
• Communication skills and a confident demeanor

Here's what you can expect

• 2-year continuing education program in a block format (Start: April 1 or October 1 of each year)
• Compensation under Section 6 of the TVöD (as of 2026)
• Upon successful completion, classification in pay grade EG 9a under the TVöD
• 31 days of recreational leave based on a 5-day workweek per calendar year; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are additional days off—with no deduction from vacation time
• theoretical training at the Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Food Science in Stuttgart
• Practical assignments in the Fulda district as well as external internships in Hesse
• Work in the Field of Animal Disease Control and Animal Welfare
• Inspection of Livestock Farms and Facilities
• Preparation of Reports and Documentation
• Personal and professional guidance from experienced practice instructors

Ensure a food supply—protect health.

As a food inspector, you inspect businesses, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. You work in the field and have direct contact with businesses and members of the public.

What You'll Bring to the Table

• Completed vocational training in the food industry or a comparable degree program
• Interest in food safety and consumer protection
• Sense of Responsibility and Attention to Detail
• Communication skills and a confident demeanor
• Willingness to work in both office and field positions

Here's what you can expect

• 2-year continuing education program in a block format (starts August 1 of each year)
• Compensation under Section 6 of the TVöD (as of 2026)
• Upon successful completion, classification in pay grade EG 9a under the TVöD
• 31 days of recreational leave based on a 5-day workweek per calendar year; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are additional days off—with no deduction from vacation time

• Practical assignments in the Fulda district as well as external internships in Hesse
• Inspection of Food Manufacturing and Processing Facilities
• Sampling, Documentation, and Evaluation of Self-Monitoring Systems
• Handling of Complaints and Enforcement Measures
• Personalized guidance from experienced clinical instructors

Anyone who wants to start their own business as a child care provider in the city or district of Fulda can enroll in a training program offered by the district adult education center (VHS).

The Fulda District trains staff members to assist with and supervise the district's summer camps.
