Training for Team Members

Generally, the training program consists of three weekends (Friday through Sunday), online courses on the lives of young people, an outdoor seminar—for those who, for example, accompany a camping trip—and a follow-up seminar in which participants reflect once again on the camps and the training itself. You’ll spend the seminar weekends at the Fulda Youth Hostel, the DJO Regional Center in Rodholz, and the DJH Youth Hostel in Bad Kissingen.

If you haven't completed a first-aid course in the last two years, that must be included as well. After completing the first-aid course, please submit the certificate and a receipt for the amount you paid so that we can reimburse you.

The training sessions cover organization, legal matters, supervisory responsibilities, and insurance—everything you need to be well-prepared for a summer camp. You’ll also receive suggestions for planning the content of the camps. You’ll then plan the specific on-site program—including field trips, group activities, and alternatives for bad weather—yourselves later on.

The training programs are aimed at young people from the Fulda district who are between the ages of 16 and 35.­

The team training sessions are completely free, including room and board.

Team members lead the numerous summer camps offered by the Fulda district. We follow the team principle here: There are no “lead counselors”—whether this is your first or fifth time participating. You and your teammates are jointly responsible for the camp. To ensure this works as well as possible, we largely leave it up to you to put your teams together. Who leads which camp and in which team is decided during the first two seminars. There, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the various camp destinations and discuss potential team assignments with others.

After attending the seminars and participating in a summer camp or educational event, you will have met the requirements for the Juleica (Youth Leader Card)—the nationwide standard ID card for volunteers in youth work. You can apply for it online.

Juleica cardholders receive a wide range of benefits throughout Germany and at events organized by the city and district of Fulda.

Those who already have the Juleica do not have to attend all the seminar days—nor do those who only want to complete the Juleica training but do not wish to become team leaders. You can change your mind at any time and still complete the entire training program.
