Retaining License Plates
Checklist for Transferring a Vehicle from Another County or City Without a Change of Owner and While Retaining the License Plate
- ZB II/Vehicle Registration Certificate or Certificate of Registration is not required if the certificate matches this new form; for older documents, the certificate is required.
- ZB I/Vehicle Registration Certificate
- Valid vehicle inspection certificate
- valid ID card (or valid passport with proof of residence)
- Foreign residents must present a passport along with a valid residence permit and proof of registration (for EU citizens, the "EU ID card").
- for motor vehicles intended for the transport of goods, the inspection logbook
- SEPA Direct Debit Authorization for Vehicle Tax
The fee for registering the vehicle is at least 24.20 euros. Additional fees may apply in certain cases.
Changes to License Plates
Checklist for Transferring a Vehicle from Another County/City Without a Change of Owner but With a Change of License Plate
- ZB II/Vehicle Registration Certificate or Certificate of Registration
- ZB I/Vehicle Registration Certificate
- Valid HU certificate / for vehicles subject to SP, valid proof of safety inspection
- valid ID card (or valid passport with proof of residence)
- Foreign residents must present a passport along with a valid residence permit and proof of registration (for EU citizens, the "EU ID card").
- Previous license plates

The fee for registering the vehicle is at least 27.70 euros. A fee of 10.20 euros will be charged for the possible assignment of a personalized license plate. Additional fees may apply in certain cases.
