Apply for a permit to carry alarm guns, irritant-dispensing weapons, and signal guns (Small Arms Permit)

The Small Arms License authorizes you to carry alarm guns, irritant-dispensing weapons, or signal weapons bearing a mark from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB mark; see Figure 6). Carrying these weapons is not permitted at public entertainment events, folk festivals, sporting events, trade shows, exhibitions, markets, or similar public gatherings such as demonstrations, public processions, etc.

With a limited firearms license and a valid ID card or passport, you may generally carry these firearms outside your own home, your own business premises, your own private property (such as a fenced-in or hedge-enclosed lot), or a shooting range.

The Limited Firearms License is valid indefinitely and without any explicit restrictions on specific occasions or areas.

A violation constitutes a criminal offense and is punishable by a fine or imprisonment.

Holders of a valid hunting license do not need a Small Arms Permit to carry alarm guns, irritant-firing weapons, and signal weapons within the hunting grounds. They may fire these weapons within the scope of authorized hunting activities (e.g., training hunting dogs, preventing game damage, and protecting game). In this respect, the hunting license already serves as authorization.
