Driving Ban and Revocation of Driver's License
Service description
A driving ban and the revocation of a driver's license as a result of a criminal conviction have different implications.
A driving ban of between one and six months may be imposed if the (more stringent) requirements for revocation of the driver’s license are not met. The suspension period begins once the judgment becomes final, as soon as the driver’s license is taken into official custody, but no later than one month after the judgment becomes final. Upon expiration of the driving ban, the driver’s license is automatically returned or mailed back.
If a court revokes a driver’s license, the right to operate a motor vehicle expires when the judgment becomes final, and the driver’s license is subsequently confiscated.
If you wish to drive again in the future, you must reapply for a driver’s license. The driver’s license may be reissued only after the expiration of a suspension period set by the court in its judgment. The Road Traffic Authority decides on the reissuance in accordance with the provisions of the StVG and the FeV.
Special information for the Fulda districtWith regard to the reissuance of a driver's license, the driver's license authority will generally send you the necessary application documents in a timely manner and inform you of the formalities and requirements for reissuance.

If you have a criminal record and/or a traffic violation on your record—for example, for driving without a license—you will also be required to submit a current certificate of good conduct (no older than 3 months). In addition, an assessment will be conducted to determine whether there are any grounds for concern regarding your fitness to drive. In such cases, you may be required to submit a medical-psychological evaluation.
If you suffer from a medical condition that impairs your ability to drive, this may also raise concerns regarding your fitness to drive. These concerns may need to be addressed by submitting the required medical evaluations. In some cases, you may also be required to provide proof of your theoretical and practical driving skills.
