Center of Excellence for Language and Education
The Center of Excellence for Language and Education brings together three key partners: the Fulda State School Authority and the youth welfare offices of the city and district of Fulda. Together, they support children with special needs in language or emotional and social development. For the language track, there are four classes in which children receive targeted support throughout their entire elementary school years.
The Educational Support Network constitutes the second part of the Competence Center and aims to provide direct support to children and adolescents at their schools while also offering individualized counseling to their families. In general, within the area of emotional and social development, special education teachers and social workers from youth welfare services work closely together to gain a thorough understanding of the current situation at school and at home and to provide the best possible support.
In addition, there are four classes where students can attend school on a temporary basis. Here, they have the opportunity to take a “break” from their regular school and receive more intensive support when the support available at their regular school is no longer sufficient. Ultimately, the goal is for the children to return to their regular schools feeling empowered.

Through targeted programs and interdisciplinary collaboration, the Center of Excellence for Language and Education helps strengthen individual learning processes and improve skills in a sustainable manner. It serves as a point of contact for teachers, parents, and students to ensure the best possible educational and support opportunities. The Center of Excellence for Language and Education makes a significant contribution to development and innovation in the fields of language and education.
About Us
- We have a single class per grade—grades 1–4, with a maximum of 11 children in each class.
- Classes are conducted in accordance with the elementary school curriculum, with the same learning objectives.
- We operate on a mandatory full-day schedule (Profile 3) from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- What sets us apart is our individualized approach to developing language skills and addressing related challenges.
- Language development is integrated into instruction in all subjects.
- Close collaboration with parents is essential for us.
- There is interdisciplinary collaboration, primarily with speech-language pathology and occupational therapy.
Recording
- Visits to the Competence Center are possible starting in first grade or at any time during elementary school, depending on availability.
- Parents submit an application for direct admission to their local elementary school.
- An assessment process is conducted (intelligence testing, language skills, and academic readiness).
- At our school, children with identified special educational needs in the area of speech-language therapy receive instruction.

The State School Authority for the Fulda District and the youth welfare offices of the district and the city of Fulda are partners in the Center of Excellence for Language and Education in the area of emotional and social development.
