The Farm as a Classroom
Schools, kindergartens, and daycare centers in the Fulda district can visit farms as part of the "Farm as a Classroom" project. The children learn how animals are raised, how crops are grown, and how food is produced.
On average, 150 farm visits take place each year. The program is open to students from preschool through upper secondary school. The county provides participating farms with an expense allowance.
The "Farm as a Classroom" initiative was launched in 2000 by the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, Viticulture, Forestry, Hunting, and Regional Affairs, in collaboration with the Hessian Farmers' Association and the Hessian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.
Module Kits Available for Loan
At the initiative of the Fulda-Hünfeld District Farmers’ Association, the district has purchased four educational kits covering the topics of grains, crops, livestock, and agricultural machinery. These kits can be borrowed by elementary schools and daycare centers to help prepare for farm visits.
