Kleinsassen Art Station

The Kleinsassen Art Station was founded in 1979, based on an earlier idea by District Administrator Georg Stieler, who sought to revive an old tradition in Kleinsassen. With the support of the adult education center, the painting tradition of the former Kleinsassen artists’ colony has been revived in the vacant village school in Kleinsassen. The building has become a venue for contemporary art and is the driving force behind the Kleinsassen Art Week. The Kunststation is a well-established institution and is known beyond the region for its exhibitions and international activities. Since 2007, the Kunststation has been a nonprofit organization.

It provides a space for artists from the region and experimental art from around the world, with the goal of connecting regional and international cultural scenes and offering both young, emerging and established artists a forum to present their artistic visions.
