Emergency Shelter for Victims of Violence

Current injuries resulting from violence are documented in such a way that this documentation can be used in legal proceedings. This does not mean that filing a criminal complaint is required for the documentation.

Documentation takes place on the premises of the emergency clinic. In exceptional cases, documentation may also be carried out at another secure location (e.g., a hospital or nursing home).

It takes about two hours to prepare documentation that will hold up in court.

Please bring the following items to your appointment:

• Valid ID card or passport
• If available: medical reports related to the violent incident
• If a report has been filed: the police case number.

All digital evidence is retained for 30 years; physical evidence and clothing are retained for three years.

As a general rule, nothing happens at the emergency clinic without prior consultation and your express consent.

The staff at the crisis clinic are bound by confidentiality.

A consultation that does not involve documenting the consequences of an injury can be conducted anonymously upon request.

To preserve evidence in cases of sexual violence, it is absolutely essential to undergo a prompt medical examination by a specialist at a hospital or a gynecologist’s office. An appointment can be scheduled through the emergency care clinic.

At the emergency clinic, any associated injuries to the body can also be documented.

The Protection Clinic is connected to regional counseling and support centers. At the request of those affected, the Protection Clinic can arrange an appointment (including anonymously) with the appropriate center. It can also facilitate phone calls or return calls.

The Safety Clinic is not equipped to provide initial medical care to victims of violence. If such care is needed, the Safety Clinic can assist in contacting local doctors’ offices and hospitals.

In caregiving relationships—whether in a home or professional setting, and whether verbal or physical—both caregivers and patients are affected by violence. This violence largely goes unnoticed. The Schutzambulanz is a resource and counseling center dedicated to addressing violence in caregiving.
