Other Groundwater Uses

The use of groundwater generally requires a permit. Permit procedures are subject to a fee. “Use” refers to any extraction, impoundment, diversion, or lowering of groundwater. The introduction of substances (including solids) into the groundwater is also considered “use.”

Other uses of groundwater that require a permit, in addition to the use of geothermal energy or wells and springs, include:

• supplying a pond system or fish farm with water drawn from groundwater,
• temporary groundwater control or lowering of the water table (for example, during construction work to keep the excavation dry)

For pond and fish farming facilities, informal applications may be submitted, accompanied by detailed descriptions of the project and the relevant planning documents.
