Civil Protection

Disaster management refers to all measures taken to protect people, animals, the environment, or property from exceptionally serious threats such as natural disasters, major accidents, or other emergencies.

The following units are involved in disaster response in the Fulda district:

• German Red Cross
• Malteser Relief Service
• German Life-Saving Society
• Federal Agency for Technical Relief

• Fire Departments

Civil defense encompasses all measures taken to protect and maintain the population, critical infrastructure, the functioning of the state, and essential services in the event of war or armed conflict.

The Four Pillars of Civil Defense:

1. Maintenance of State and Government Functions
2. Civil Defense: Protecting the Population from Threats in the Event of a Defense Emergency
3. Supplying the population, state and government agencies, the authorities responsible for civil defense and state emergency preparedness, and the armed forces with the necessary goods and services
4. Supporting the armed forces in establishing and maintaining their defense capabilities and operational freedom

Germany is one of the safest countries in the world. Nevertheless, we are seeing that even in Germany, crises can disrupt our normal daily routines. Extreme weather events are on the rise. Cyberattacks, disinformation, and sabotage are used to target infrastructure, public opinion, and social cohesion. When something happens, it’s better to be prepared.
