Chimney sweeping
Chimney sweeps ensure the operational and fire safety of heating systems and compliance with important environmental and climate protection regulations. Certain tasks are required by law and must be performed at specified intervals. Building owners are required to allow these inspections to take place.
Heating systems such as boilers, fireplaces, or stoves must be inspected regularly to prevent hazards posed by fires, carbon monoxide, or malfunctions. At the same time, properly maintained systems play an important role in environmental protection and energy efficiency.
The chimney sweeping service is therefore organized under public law. An authorized chimney sweep is appointed for each chimney-sweeping district. The official duties include, in particular, inspecting fireplaces and issuing fireplace inspection notices that specify the type and deadlines for the work to be performed.
Based on these requirements, property owners are responsible for ensuring that the necessary cleaning, inspection, and measurement work is carried out by the deadline. Some of the work may also be performed by other licensed specialized companies, provided that the legal requirements are met and the necessary documentation is submitted on time.
If required measures are not implemented, the competent authority may take regulatory action.
