Coverage of Daycare Fees
In Hesse, for children from age three until they start school, the first six hours of care each morning at daycare are provided free of charge. For children under three years of age, as well as for additional hours of care, parents can apply to have daycare fees covered in full or in part if their income does not exceed certain limits.
Families receiving social assistance, benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, the child supplement, or housing assistance/rental subsidy are generally reimbursed for the full amount of the fees. In all other cases, the Youth Welfare Office reviews the family’s personal income and expenses to determine whether it is possible to cover some or all of the costs.
The fees for lunch (meal costs) are not included in this application and must be applied for separately.
