Education and Participation for Children and Youth
Children and adolescents aged 0 to 24 who attend a general or vocational school, do not receive an apprenticeship stipend, and are entitled to
- Basic Income Support under SGB II
- Benefits Under SGB XII (Basic Income Support and Assistance with Living Expenses)
- Housing Allowance and/or Child Supplement
- Benefits Under the Asylum Benefits Act (AsylbLG)
are eligible to receive the education and participation package.
What services are available?
- Field Trips with School or Daycare
- School field trips or multi-day recreational trips organized by the daycare center (up to 600 euros for domestic trips and up to 900 euros for international trips)
- School Supplies (as of August 1 and February 1 of each year)
- School Transportation (available starting in 11th grade or the introductory phase of the G8 curriculum, if the nearest school is more than 3 km from the student’s home and no primary service provider is available)
- Academic Support
- Coverage of the cost of lunch at school and at the daycare center
- Participation in social and cultural life (up to 15 euros per month as a lump sum for children and adolescents ages 0 to 17, e.g., for club activities, music lessons, or summer camps)
Applying for Benefits
To receive the Education and Participation Package, the form “Application for Education and Participation Benefits” is required for all legal jurisdictions.
To have the costs of a school trip lasting several days covered, the school must provide confirmation in advance that the trip will take place. After the trip, a certificate of participation must be submitted.
To receive reimbursement for school transportation costs, you must also submit the "School Transportation" supplement.
To have the costs of appropriate academic support covered, you must also submit the “Questionnaire on Appropriate Academic Support” and your most recent school report card.
You can find the required forms in the download section on this page, or you can obtain them at the Municipal District Job Center, the Government Building at Schlossgarten, and the social services offices.
