Hygiene – Protection Through Prevention
Hygiene is a central component of medical prevention. The goal is to detect infections early, prevent their spread, and combat infectious diseases in a targeted manner—through appropriate preventive measures. This is intended to ward off health risks and provide the best possible protection for the population.
Surveillance in Facilities Under the IfSG
The goal is to create a safe environment in medical facilities, in commercial services involving human contact, and in public spaces. The district health department therefore monitors compliance with hygiene regulations, particularly in:
- Hospitals and medical practices
- Rehabilitation and spa facilities, and care facilities such as senior living centers and nursing homes
- in daycare centers and schools
- in other communal housing facilities, such as shelters for the homeless or housing for asylum seekers
- Water Supply Systems
Monitoring in Facilities in Accordance with the InfHygV
The State of Hesse’s Infection Control Regulation governs all professional and commercial activities involving human contact in which pathogens—such as HIV or hepatitis viruses—can be transmitted through blood or other bodily fluids. The purpose of these regulations is to protect both clients and employees. Consistent adherence to applicable hygiene standards contributes significantly to a safe and trusting treatment environment. Due to the nature of the work, testing of drinking water in the building’s plumbing system is also necessary and must be included in the hygiene plan.
The district health department monitors compliance with hygiene regulations, particularly in the following areas:
- Nail Salons
- Hair Salons
- Tattoo and Piercing Studios
- Beauty Salons
- Foot Care and Podiatry Practices
- Alternative practitioners who perform invasive procedures
