Fulda District Waste Collection Association

Cities and municipalities are responsible for collecting waste and recyclables. To ensure that individual municipalities do not have to organize collection on their own, they have been working closely together in the Fulda district for many years.

Effective January 1, 1995, they adopted a new organizational structure to carry out these tasks and, together with the Fulda district, established the Waste Collection Special-Purpose Association.

The special-purpose association includes 22 of the 23 towns and municipalities in the district. It regulates and organizes the collection of household and bulky waste, as well as the collection of scrap wood, waste paper, food waste, old electrical appliances, and yard waste; it also oversees the operation of recycling centers and many other collection activities.

All costs incurred are financed by the household waste collection fees that cities and municipalities collect on behalf of the special-purpose association.

Exception: The city of Fulda is not a member of the special-purpose association; rather, given its size, it carries out its duties independently.
