Hesse | State | Medicine – HeLaMed
In February 2022, Hesse adopted the so-called “rural physician quota.” To strengthen rural regions, up to 7.8% of the undergraduate spots at Hesse’s medical universities are set aside under this quota. Through a standardized selection process, applicants who demonstrate exceptional personal and professional suitability can secure a spot in a medical school program regardless of their grade point average.
The HeLaMed support program was developed for these and other interested students to prepare them for their future careers as physicians. HeLaMed includes a variety of components, such as interactive seminars, small-group mentoring, and field trips to innovative healthcare models. The program also includes one-week observational placements at rural family practice offices.
Through its partnership with HeLaMed, the Fulda District offers medical students the opportunity to learn about general practice and the Fulda District during a one-week observational placement.
